100 Firehelmets of 100 Fire Departments of the USA!
Hello,
My name is Guido van Herten and i am a 36 year old Captain in a volunteer fire department in the Netherlands. In our department we operate one engine / pump, one small rescue and special hazmat decontamination unit for chemical suits. I have started collecting international firehelmets more than 20 years ago, but I am always looking for any helmets to make the collection which is exhibited in our fire station, even bigger. I have collected more than 290 firehelmets. Through the contacts I have established over the years and the visits I have paid to the several parts of the world I have obtained and exchanged some beautiful and very rare firehelmets such as the helmet from Vatican city, several original FDNY helmets, East Europe, Kuwait, but also the European countries are numerous in sort and type helmet.
Since december 2008 i have started writing to the 100 biggest Fire Departments in the USA. With a reason, my goal, to add 100 old / used firehelmets from the 100 USA cities. An ambitious plan? Yes, an impossible plan, NO! The start has been very successful. Over the last few months, the list already decreased because we have received helmets from: New York ( 7 helmets), Los Angeles, Chicago (2 helmets), Charlotte, Washington DC, Fresno, New Orleans, Miami, Omaha, Arcadia, St. Louis, Mobile, Boeing Fire Department ( 2 helmets), Salt Lake City, Catskill, Anchorage, Cold Spring, Blacksburg, Binghamton, and MSA Cairns itself! . Fire departments who are seriously considering sending one are San Francisco, Denver and Tampa. So Yes, we do have a long list to go, but we are counting down!
We know this might be a bit of an odd request, but in our unique collection, we have very rare helmets in mint condition. We will keep on going, knowing that we might have to overcome government law, certain department policy, but our goal stands! But we do need your help with this goal.
As a museum, we would love to get in contact with Cohoes Fire Department or one of it's members to see if the department / members / former member would kindly donate a helmet or would be interested in a trade. We do hope that you could help us with this special request. We do know that of course the situation has changed since 9/11 but being honest in our request, we do hope that firefighters amongst each other would be able to find a way to help. We have several helmets for trading and a patch lies waiting for every fire department!
I know it is a lot to ask, but If you would take a look at our site:
www.brandweerhelmen.nl
I hope you can and will support us, please let us know!
Check us at www.brandweerbelfeld.web-log .nl or visit our site, just online, www.brandweerhelmen.nl to find out more about the collection.
Yours truly,
Brandweer Belfeld

Hello,
You have cared for my mom more than once when she's had a fall or other medical emergency. Each of you, and the ambulance staff as well, have treated her with the utmost respect, tenderness and professionalism. Thanks for all you do.
Sincerely,
Barbara |
