Each year members of CFD go out into the public, providing education on the hazards of fire and ways to prevent it. Members attend the city schools distributing materials to kids of all ages. Children are tought what to do in the event fire occurs in their home. Examples include Evacuation Drills In The Home (EDITH), crawling under smoke, and not to be scared of firefighters, to name a few. Adults are also taught what to do to keep their homes fire safe. Examples are changing batteries in fire detectors, owning fire extinguishers and how to use them, etc.
